CDR Maguire provided construction oversight services to the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget for construction of the new $74-million Computer Science building at Carnegie Mellon University. This contemporary structure houses the (Bill) Gates Center for Computer Science, the Hillman Center for Future Generation Technologies, and the Planetary Robotics Laboratory.
CDR Maguireʼs services included monitoring compliance with special conditions of the ownerʼs grant agreement with the Commonwealth of PA, as well as compliance with state regulations for labor and procurement.
CDR Maguire provided design management services to the Allegheny County Department of Public Works for the rehabilitation of the Rankin Bridge, a 2,423-foot long steel truss bridge carrying PA S.R. 837 between Whitaker and Rankin over the Monongahela River, as well as the Union, NSC, and CSX railroads.
Following the I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis, the county decided to increase the budget for this $50M project to provide increased measures for rehabilitating the bridgeʼs gusset plates.
The project also included a cantilevered sidewalk to allow the bridgeʼs lanes and shoulders to be widened.
CDR Maguire provided design management services to the City of Pittsburgh for the rehabilitation of the McArdle Viaduct No. 1. This 215-foot through truss bridge spans a total of 548 feet and carries traffic on the McArdle Roadway from Mount Washington to the South Side over the CSX railroad.
The project included complete replacement of the approach spans along with preservation of the existing abutments, pier foundations, and historic truss span.
Vintage cast iron railing along the outer edge of the sidewalk was retained, while a new PA Type 10M bridge barrier was installed along both curbs of the roadway.
CDR Maguireʼs Ownerʼs Project Management Group provided pre-construction services including design document review, contractor and subcontractor pre-qualification, oversight for building demolition, and abatement for the transformation of the long-standing James Madison Morton Middle School into a state-of-the-art, comprehensive facility.
It will now meet the needs of all Fall River students for years to come.
The new building of approximately 135,000 square feet will have details and elements of the former building incorporated into its new construction.
CDR Maguire designed the new fire headquarters for the Hudson Fire Department, which was constructed on a 71-acre parcel of town-owned land adjacent to the Assabet River.
The new facility has an apparatus floor consisting of five double bays and two drive-thrus, as well as 13,800-square feet of administration, personnel quarters, and support space. A two-story configuration was developed to minimize the footprint of the building, respond to the site constraints, and allow for future expansion to accommodate growth of the town and the department.
The facility also contains a training tower and training room that can serve as an emergency operations center.
